I was wondering if you guys have any first-hand experience with Dolby Digital Live. There's not very much documentation on the subject in general.

I'm looking to do gaming surround sound through optical/toslink.

Do any of the motherboards you use support DDL? Or am I going to have to buy a specific X-Fi card with DDL support?

   Thanks a lot!

I ended up buying a GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R motherboard. It has a Realtek ALC889 audio chipset which is supposed to support Dolby Digital Live. Nowhere did the motherboard documentation say anything about it, so I figured I would just take my chances.

I downloaded the updated drivers when I built the machine, and the package included the Dolby Digital Live application. It encodes the separate channels into Dolby in real-time, providing true surround sound through optical or digital coax. Now, when I launch a game, my receiver switches over to dolby surround rather than pro logic/stereo. It also works great for Turtle Beach or Tritton surround sound gaming headsets.

Freakin sick...
